We aim to meet the needs of all pupils in the school by providing a broad and balanced curriculum where all children can experience success and build on their strengths.
Ofsted noted in September 2018;
'Most pupils are motivated and engaged in lessons. They contribute well to discussions and are willing to grapple with ideas to find answers and come to conclusions. '
The National Curriculum gives us a framework of what is to be taught and it is within this framework that we organise our own curriculum. We recognise the importance of English and Maths within the primary school, but also feel that children need a more rounded education.
With this in mind we have adopted a creative approach to the curriculum, and have been developing the curriculum with children, parents and staff. This encompasses all the foundation subjects as well as using English, Maths, science and ICT to enhance learning, exploring cultural links where ever possible.
Our curriculum has been developed to enable the flexibility to be adapted for each new class of children, to ensure that staff are able to plan and work from their interests and previous knowledge.
Where possible we explore cultural links within topics to develop children’s understanding of the diverse world around them. We are very proud of our community links and try to take part in, and promote, local celebrations and traditions.
We provide a termly topic overview to parents to engage all of our parents in their child's learning and encourage them to support the class topics from home. We also provide week ahead sheets.
In addition to this we promote positive emotional health and help children to develop social and emotional skills through PSHE.
In each subject we have developed a progression of skills in order for children to experience the building blocks of learning in each subject which develop through the years. Allowing a breadth of experience and through variety of media and opportunities.
Each week teachers send out a 'Week Ahead sheet' which lets parents and children know what we have been up to and what is planned for the week ahead. Additional information can be requested from the teachers.
